The barn that is shown below is one that I recently revisited. It is located on a well kept farm site in Jessenland township. I first photographed it about 5 years ago as I started photographing the barns of Sibley County. As I visited with a woman at the farm and told her what I was doing she told me that I should have started when the price of gas was a little cheaper. It was $1.69 that day!

My two grandsons spent Easter Sunday afternoon fishing in our creek. They caught a few chubs and had a good time.

June 27, 2011... into summertime now.

Well, we seem to be stuck in a cool and wet mode yet for this start of summertime. There is talk of warmer weather towrds the end of this week but there is also talk of more wet weather, too. It gets a little depressing with a lot of dark and cloudy days. We never had much of a spring and summer just isn't starting perfectly yet either. But I have a feeling that we won't be complaining about too cool weather for very much longer!

Henderson celebrated its annual Sauerkraut Days event this past weekend with parades, lots of kraut to eat and other fun events. This little town celebrates all kinds of events all summer. Check their website to see what's coming up that you do not want to miss. Here are a few photos from a couple of the events from this past weekend.

Cool, wet and still Spring ....June 19, 2011

We are edging up to the first day of summer and still seeing cool and very wet weather. Although we did see some 90 degree days this past week we have switched back to highs in the 70's and lots and lots of rain. It has been difficult to find drying days for putting up hay for the dairy farmers that are still engaged in that business. There are not too many left in Sibley county anymore but neighboring Carver County still has many large dairies.

Summer town events are well under way and I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy as many as you can.

Photographing barns doesn't take too much talent or skill. If you can point a camera then you can certainly capture an imposing barn with all its detail and beauty for others to enjoy seeing. The farther we get away from our rural roots as a people, it seems the more that we enjoy the nostalgia of the old barns and what they meant to the farmers who built them.

On this site, I'm going to talk a little about my own skills, such as they are, at photographing barns and other rural scenes.  I will try to give a bit of history on the subject itself, as well as some background on some of the barns that I have a little information about. I might also include some tips or techniques used or how I was lucky enough to get the shot that I did get.  And, of course, I'll include lots of pictures of the results of my photo journey throughout the County of Sibley in the great State of Minnesota!
